The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is an action-adventure video game and the nineteenth entry in The Legend of Zelda series. It was released worldwide for the Wii U and Nintendo Switch on March 3, 2017, following two years of development delays. The player controls Link, who upon waking from his hundred-year slumber, goes on a quest to defeat Calamity Ganon before it can destroy the world.

Intending to return to the gameplay of the original game, Breath of the Wild is incredibly nonlinear in structure, encouraging player exploration and experimentation. It features a massive open world, a complex physics engine, and numerous opportunities for exploration. Upon release, Breath of the Wild received critical acclaim, being hailed as a masterpiece and a successful reinventing of the Zelda series.
