RAID

RAID stands for Redundant Array of Independent Disks. A RAID system is a collection of interconnected hard drives and a controller unit to keep them organized. The purpose of a RAID is to maintain data integrity by keeping multiple copies (backups) across multiple physical locations, so that in the event of a drive failure data is easily recoverable. The use of multiple small drives instead of a large drive for mass storage is also sometimes an inexpensive storage solution.
