Port Royale is a business simulation game set in the Caribbean and partly the Atlantic during the 16th and 17th centuries. Created by Ascaron Entertainment in 2003, it combines business–economic simulation with real-time battles and towns that can be visited for trade and other purposes. It is an open-ended game and the players can choose any type of career that they wish.

An important part of the game are the colonial nations in the Caribbean (Spain, France, England and The Netherlands) and their relationships.

There are also many other varieties in the game besides trading or hunting down pirates. Players can visit governors in towns and accept missions from them as long as their reputation with the country is good enough.

There are a total of 12 different ship types they are listed below: 1.Pinnace 2.Sloop 3.Brig 4.Barque 5.Flute 6.Frigate 7.Trading Flute-ship 8.Military Frigate 9.Caravel 10.Carrack 11.Galleon 12.Ship of the Line

Pirates also make appearances. These hostiles are likely to attack any ship or port that they want, including the player.

There are also missions in the game that involve the player tracking down his family members such as his mother and sister. The pirate that kidnapped them goes as the name Axesmith and the player must fight his relatives which are found by going to taverns and finding specific people that will give the player a map to his relatives location. The players mother has turned out to have died but the sister of the player is still alive and is found by the player. After finding the sister the sister states that she wants to stay with the Indian Tribe she was with the whole time after she escaped from Axesmith and she gives the player a map to where Axesmiths location is. The player fights and kills Blacksmith stealing his gold which is equally divided amongst the crew.
