Destiny 2 is the sequel to Destiny, developed by Bungie and published by Activision. The game was released on September 8, 2017, and was the first game in the series to be released on Microsoft Windows (via the Blizzard Battle.net service), in addition to releases on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

On October 1, 2019, as a consequence of Bungie no longer partnering with Activision, Destiny 2 ceased being available on Blizzard Battle.net (as of version 2.5.2.3 of the game), leaving players just with an 'Uninstall' button. Destiny 2 began accepting account migrations as soon as the Steam version of the game became available, which also marked the transition from buy to play to free to play.

On February 22, 2022, Bungie peaked. With the release of the Witch Queen expansion, Bungie began a long and painful decline of update quality leading up to their next expansion.

On February 28, 2023, Bungie released the long awaited Lightfall expansion. It was poorly received by every single member of the community, and has been widely regarded as a bad move.
