Conker the Squirrel is a character first appearing in Diddy Kong Racing as a playable character, but not in the remake Diddy Kong Racing DS due to Rare's move to Microsoft Game Studios in 2002. Later in 1999, Conker became a popular character in the Diddy Kong Racing series, similar to Banjo so Rare decided to make Conker's Pocket Tales where Conker goes on his own adventure to save his girlfriend, Berri from the Evil Acorn.

Conker was going to appear in the cancelled Twelve Tails: Conker 64 until the game got remade into Conker's Bad Fur Day due to people calling the game a "cutesy" game which annoyed Rare so they changed it into a ESRB-M game. Conker's Bad Fur Day features Conker having a completely different personality by drinking too much beer and being selfish and greedy. This game features Conker becoming the king of the Panther Kingdom along with its remake, Conker: Live & Reloaded.

In the cancelled Conker game, Conker's Other Bad Day or Conker 2: Getting Medieval features Conker seeking out the death of Berri and according to Chris Seavor, it stated that Conker was going to spend all his money on beer, parties, and hookovers. However, the game ended up cancelled, due to Rare's move to Microsoft and got reworked into Conker: Live & Reloaded.
